The survey was conceived as a multidisciplinary project studying the whole valley from the time it was initially settled until the Early Modern period.
Did any activity exist in the valley before the agricultural village grew up around Asea Paleokastro, and what did it look like? Where was Classical Asea? Were there other important settlement sites in the valley? How was the valley used in a diachronic perspective? How had the geomorphology changed in the valley and what was the impact of erosion during antiquity and prehistoric times? What influence had the road network on the settlements in the valley? In what way did the valley as a thoroughfare have an impact on the prehistoric settlement pattern?
