  • Do sherds scattered across the surface of an acient mound reveal to the excavator such things as residence patterns, population fluctuations, and social differentiation, or are they just scattered bits of pottery? Does the distribution of surface sherds accurately predict social differentiation of the boundries of specific use areas, such as domestic, administrative, and industrial sectors? To what extent does the distribution and quantity of surface ceramics correlate with excavated remains at Tall Jalul?
