    Chronology

    • 700 BC - 1600 AD

    Season

      • In 2006 season an excavation was opened at the acropolis of Butrint site close to the fortification walls. No Bronze Age levels were revealed but a remarkable and previously unrecognised sequence of occupation on the acropolis from the Archaic period onwards was illuminated. A polygonal wall is visible in a discontinuous line throughout the two sets of excavations and extant sections of the acropolis fortifications. Through association with imported Corinthian wares this is generally accepted to date from the 7th to 6th centuries BC, though it remains debatable as to whether it enclosed the full extent of the acropolis hilltop or acted as a prominent terrace on the southern face.
