Chronology

  • 1 AD - 299 AD

Season

    • Excavations were undertaken by the Rome Superintendency for Archaeology in via la Monachina, loc. Massa Gallesina, at the 13th km on the via Aurelia. The investigations uncovered a vast necropolis with 337 burials, almost all inhumations in simple graves cut into the tufa bedrock. The burials date to between the Hadrianic period and about the mid-3rd century A.D. The excavations also identified a quarry and structures from a production or rural installation, probably associated with the necropolis.
