Summary (English)

  • The excavations took place in a single 42 m2 sector (quadrants AR-AZ/16-22) where the Neolithic ground surface was removed in two 5 cm spits. Recording was carried out using traditional methods and 3D photopiano. The underlying sterile layer was not reached. However, the situation of the surface exposed at present is interesting as traces of the probable underlying structures are beginning to appear. In fact, in quadrants AS-AT/16 what seems to be a structure of burnt cobblestones has begun to appear. As things stand, there are clearly visible charcoal fibres lying on a north south alignment suggesting that the structure was orientated in this direction. Only a few of the burnt cobblestones that characterise such structures are visible at present. To the west, in quadrants AR-AT/20-22 there was an abundant spread of pottery, lithics, faunal material and small cobblestones suggesting the presence of sunken structures below, as documented in other sectors and during the 1998-1999 campaigns. Lithics, terracotta, and bone fragments were recovered from US 4. These materials were removed and recorded in an Arcgis database. The bone material was badly compromised. To be noted the presence of herbivore teeth. The pottery consisted of small fragments of medium coarse brown to reddish-brown impasto, including bowls, cups, one fragment of a double-rod handle and several vessels with lug handles. The rest were body sherds. The lithics were made of local and Lessinia flint and mainly comprised waste materials (in particular elements from reducing the size of the core), generic flakes and some fragmented blades. A transverse arrowhead and a scraper were also found.
