Summary (English)

  • ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF KAMENOVO (Yavor Boyadziev – yavordb@abv.bg, Dimitar Chernakov) In Sondages 10 and 13, the explorations of the layer abundant with flint artifacts continued. The artifacts included mostly fragments from the flint production, but also adzes, scrapers, plates and an awl. The burials of the first half of the Late Chalcolithic period were dug into that layer. A man laid in a Hocker position on his left side was buried in Grave No. 16. A ceramic dish was placed over him and two more dishes were placed each above other over the first one. A man laid in a Hocker position on his back was buried in Grave No. 17. A man laid in a Hocker position on his left side was buried in Grave No. 18. The grave goods included a stone battle axe and a stone adze. The bodies in all the burials were oriented to the east. A contemporary pit was documented that had destroyed at least one more burial: fragments from the skull of a man and a copper battle axe were found there. A flint workshop and necropolis existed on the site during the Chalcolithic period.
