Summary (English)
The research in this part of the locality of Ghiacciaia began in 2020, with the aim of verifying the presence of a building with an apse visible in the aerial photographs. The campaign was successful and it was possible to confirm its presence, and to investigate the imposing concrete foundations, residual bricks, and the high-quality materials used to decorate floors and walls, such as coloured marble slabs and fragments of wall plaster with various decorations. During the 2021 campaign, the remaining part of the building, to the north-east, was brought to light, its total extension measuring 20 × 14,50 m. In 2022, the area of investigation was extended and the presence of three buildings and a street was verified. Furthermore, it was possible to outline four different stratigraphic phases, from the end of the 1st century B.C./beginning of the 1st cent. A.D. to the second half of the 5th century A.D./beginning of the 6th century A.D. Ultimately this campaign made it possible to shed some light on the dynamics of urban planning in this sector of the ancient city of Altinum, from the imperial period to late antiquity.
