Summary (English)
EXPLORATIONS IN STARA ZAGORA (Georgi Iliev – alhio@mail.bg) The site was situated in the northwestern periphery of Augusta Traiana at c. 85 m from the western fortification wall. Wall No. 1 was explored, 80 cm wide and built of bricks, 30 cm by 30 cm in size, bonded with mortar. Mortar with imprints of terracotta tubes were documented on the upper side of the wall. Sherds of the 15th – 19th centuries were found. Wall No. 2 was explored, 67 cm wide and built of bricks (30 cm by 30 cm, 32 cm by 32 cm and 33 cm by 33 cm in size) bonded with mortar. Four terracotta rosettes of architectural decoration of a façade dated to the 12th – 14th century were found. Wall No. 3 was explored. Only its foundation was preserved, 90 cm wide and built of roughly cut stones and fragmentary building ceramics bonded with mortar. Sherds of the 15th – 19th centuries were found.
