Summary (English)
Trench I, placed across the “Levata Emilia local road” at the crossroads with the Frascaroli local road exposed a stretch of the via Aemilia Scauri. The road, 9 m wide, had been built by laying cobbles in a ditch, covered with other cobbles, the largest of which were placed in the centre so as to form the road’s “donkey back” profile. Cart tracks were still preserved in the road surface. On one side layers of sediment were visible, attesting diverse alluvial episodes over time which on at least four occasions necessitated the use of dumped gravel to restore the road, one probably already in the Roman period. The road had also slightly narrowed.
