    Summary (English)

    • Uncovered between October 1823 and February 1824, the sanctuary of Fortuna comprises the monumental temple and annexed structures destined for the organisation of the cult with lodgings, kitchens and banqueting halls (VII, 4, 1 e 2). Despite the quality of the dossier associated with the good state of preservation of the archaeological remains and a wealth of architectural and epigraphic documentation this complex has never been the object of a detailed study.

With the intervention of an interdisciplinary team of architects and archaeologists, the study offered an opportunity to reconstruct all the phases of the birth of this cult site, as well as the construction and consecration of the temple on a benefactor’s private land and the management of the cult by a college of magistrates nominated by the town.

The excavations undertaken in the temple annexes and on the property of the founder, M. Tullius, completed the analysis and provided new information regarding various phases of the construction site, the organisation and liturgical development of the sanctuary’s spaces and the exact function of the annexed structures. New data was also acquired regarding the history, from the archaic period to the origins of the town, of the quarter chosen to house the divinity Fortuna Augusta. This new and global comparison of archaeological, historical and architectural data finally offers an opportunity to re-examine all available sources concerning the installation of a cult in the Roman town.
