Summary (English)

  • SEXAGINTA PRISTA (Varbin Varbanov – ramonearhaeology@abv.bg, Nikola Rusev, Deyan Dragoev) Two Thracian pits of the Late Hellenistic period were explored, dated by an amphora stamp and a fibula of the 2nd – 1st centuries BC. A sector of the southeastern fortification wall with a U-like tower of the beginning of the 4th century AD was discovered. A layer with debris was documented, related to the destruction of the fortress at the end of the 6th century AD. The finds from the excavations included 96 coins: 28 of the 1st – 3rd centuries AD, 52 of the 4th – beginning of the 5th centuries AD, 14 Ottoman of the 16th – 19th centuries and two Romanian minted in 1867, sherds: 38% Thracian of the 2nd century BC – 1st century AD, 51% of the Late Roman period, 0.4% of the 10th – 11th centuries and 11% of the Ottoman period.
