The Early Islamic bath, or hammam, at Volubilis is one of the earliest in the Maghreb. While its frigidarium and plunge pool are substantially intact, the vault over the warm room was partially collapsed, and that over the hot room entirely so. Conservation involved the reconstruction of the voids in the warm room vault, with an inner vault using brick, and a new vault supported on a wood superstructure over the hot room. This restored the volumes of this wing of the bath, and protects the delicate flooring of the hot room, which still preserves the channels for the hypocaust floor.
